“In 1976, "Komaligal" created history by setting a record for Tamil Cinema in Sri Lanka with an unbroken run of 96 Days in a Single Theater. 40 yeas later, "Komali Kings" will attempt to better that record by storming the world stage and creating history. The best artistes in Sri Lanka have come together to bring this movie to life. I wish for it all the success it deserves, and for it to break all boundaries and succeed beyond our shores anywhere a true movie enthusiast exists.”

DIRECTOR
Every director aspires to do his or her own movie someday. I was no different. But I had no idea as to what that movie should be or if I was ready for it. I guess, like most film makers would do, I started looking for stories. When we start looking for things we tend to always start searching outside. So did i. But I now know and truly believe that real films and real stories are not found outside but within the inner being of a director or a writer. Two things inspired me to write and direct Komaali Kings. One was the only box office super hit Tamil comedy movie in the history of Sri Lankan Tamil cinema “Komaligal” released in 1976. The other was this quote from the legendary comedian Charlie Chaplin “Life is a tragedy when seen in close up, but a comedy in long-shot” It took me a while to realize that these two inspirations reflected my inner being. The film “Komaligal” reflected my passion for a true Sri Lankan Tamil identity in the form of art from a very young age. This particular Charlie Chaplin’s quote taught me to laugh at my own life. Thus “Komaali Kings” was born and the rest is history.
